Richard Barrett was born and raised in Southern California where he is a son to William Barrett and Tami Barrett. He currently serves as a pitching instructor for the Grizzlies Baseball Academy and a lead instructor for Team Retro. He first started his coaching career as an instructor in Burbank, California and went on to serve as the pitching coach at his own high school for two years. From there he continued his coaching career at Lewis and Clark Community College in Alton, Illinois all while still playing professional baseball. Richard spent six years in Independent Baseball playing for Gateway Grizzlies, Windy City Thunderbolts, River City Rascals and then on to the American Association with the Amarillo Thunderheads. He began his professional playing career with the Gateway Grizzlies both as a starter and a reliever for five years, ultimately excelling into the closer role. Richard currently holds two franchise records for the Gateway Grizzles which include the all-time appearances and all-time save records. Upon Richard’s retirement from playing, he went on to be the assistant pitching coach for the Gateway Grizzlies in 2016 and currently still holds that position. For RETRO, Richard has served as a coach and currently serves as a lead pitching instructor. Richard enjoys being able to teach players from the 8U level all the way through the professional ranks. Richard currently resides in St. Peters, Missouri.
